Rental units are registered on an annual basis and the goal is to inspect all residential units within a one year period. Landlords who qualify are exempt from the annual inspection for one year following two prior years of continued approval by the building commissioner. Thereafter, the properties would be inspected every other year as long as they continue to be in compliance.

The purpose of the inspection is to insure that the maintenance of existing buildings and premises are in accordance with the provision set forth in this Ordinance.

Scope of Program

The Rental Housing Inspection Program was adopted to protect the public health and safety of Village residents by ensuring rental units comply with the minimum housing standards as established by Village Ordinance, to protect the character and stability of residential areas, to correct and prevent housing conditions that adversely affect, or are likely to adversely affect the life, safety, general welfare, and health of the persons occupying the dwelling, facilitate the enforcement of minimum standards for the maintenance of existing  rental residential property and to preserve the value of land and buildings throughout the Village of Round Lake Park.

Our knowledgeable and dedicated staff is committed to serving you. Should you have questions or concerns relating Rental Inspection Program, feel free to contact the Building Department to assist you with your concern.
